What is unique with Sophrology?

In Sophrology, the mind and body are given equal importance, reflecting the method's foundational belief that solutions can arise from either the mind or the body to support greater well-being.

Practicing Sophrology helps quiet the chattering mind, allowing our cognitive capacities to fully engage an deploy problem-solving abilities. This process is fostering a more positive existence.

In Sophrology, the body is viewed as a vessel with its own intelligence, capable of generating solutions alongside the mind. A relaxed body reveals hidden gems of knowledge held within its layers—its structure, rhythm, and experience. The body expresses its intelligence through sensations, emotions, and values that subtly guide our everyday decision-making.

Placing equal weight on the body and mind in the equation of mental well-being is particularly beneficial, as it enables individuals to find solutions through two different sources either the body or the mind.

Sophrology goes further by exploring a third source of solutions. Neuroscience now recognizes that the brain and the body are so intimately intertwined that they cannot be though separately. The body and mind are therefore in a fast collision course to bodymind.[1] It is in this fusion of the body and mind as one entity that Sophrology taps into a deeper well of possibilities for personal growth and transformation.

By actively engaging both the body and mind simultaneously in every session Sophrology will create this invisible bridge where the body and the mind can meet and work together in harmony. There, the mind listens to the solutions that unfold from the body and the body listens to the answers revealed from the mind.

The mind became the theatre where the non-conceptual intelligence of the body can be heard and seen through pictures, words, and visualization. The body became the vehicle of the mind by integrating thoughts through sensations, emotions and feelings.

As this dynamic between the body and mind strengthens with the repetition of Sophrology, new perceptions, experiences and sensorial explorations will build up the radiant self.

This mechanism of merging the body and mind as one entity is activated during movements, visualizations, and breathing exercises. However, it is perhaps most profound during the pauses, when the Sophrologist invites clients to reflect on the sensations, perceptions, and feelings they perceive during the session.

The solutions that emerge from these experiences are consciously integrated into the body during Sophrology sessions—a process known as embodiment. Exploring new, positive dimensions of our internal and external worlds during Sophrology is referred to as phenomenology.

While these terms may sound complex, in Sophrology, they simply describe the process of discovering a path to perceive and experience the world in a different way. Since Sophrology focuses exclusively on the positive side of life, applying new filters to their experiences of the world is fostering a more uplifting and fulfilling perspective on life.

It all start with one powerful step: “giving yourself permission to feel empowered”
