Anxiety: Boost Your Emotional Intelligence to Thrive.
I’d like to share my personal experience with anxiety to offer you a real perspective on how life coaching and Sophrology helped me regain emotional balance and build lasting emotional regulation.
Suffering from traumas, I felt dissociated from my emotions. There was no clear distinction between anger, excitement, frustration, and disgust. All those emotions were mixed into one burning sensation in my chest. Similarly, joy, happiness, love, and calm blended into a single feeling of emptiness.
It felt like living inside a black-and-white painting. At times, intense sensations surged through me, driven by negative emotions. At others, when my emotions were numb, it was as if I couldn’t feel my body at all. Consequently, my tendency was to immerse myself daily in anger, as it provided an anchor, a way to feel truly alive in my body.
All of that was completely unconscious, a survival mode established by my young inner child. Becoming an adult with this emotional survival mode was incompatible with the environment I was living in, contributing to my anxiety disorder. Experiencing anxiety forced me to regulate my emotions.
Like an archaeologist, I had to dig into my emotional world, gently excavating each emotion one by one. Sophrology provided non-judgmental exercises and the ability to contemplate sensations as if for the first time. This practice allowed me to connect body sensations with their corresponding emotions, bringing clarity and understanding. Today, I can consciously feel the essence of every emotion. The effect is vibrant; I feel the powerful colours of love, joy, happiness, calm as well as sadness, anger and frustration.
Sophrology techniques also gave me the opportunity to rebalance the intensity of my negative emotions by focusing my attention on the positive side of life. Seeing life through a new lens helped me adjust my emotional state faster and with greater ease. The effect was immense: instead of living in a black-and-white perception of life, I now experience a more vital and colourful reality.
Additionally, Sophrology allowed me to classify and store my emotions in my chest in the right order, much like arranging books in a very tidy library. This phase was the most challenging yet the most rewarding part of my journey with anxiety. Returning from that emotional excavation is incredibly empowering, allowing me to live life to the fullest.
